Economic Opportunity by improving Thunder Bay Recycling

I believe that we should and can recycle more household waste. It pains me to be throwing into trash items that can be recycled. We need to be more creative here in Thunder Bay

Almost all of Sweden's household waste is recycled one way or another. Sweden recycles nearly 100% of their household waste and they also import waste.

Take a look at the information and videos at the links below...this is an idea that can solve a problem...the need for increased recycling and dealing with household waste while also presenting us with an economic opportunity.

Thunder Bay, lets move UP together with new and creative ideas that solve problems and create economic opportunities.

Community Recreation Sports, Arts and Wellness Hub

Imagine a central community hub that features a 4-pad arena, leisure pool with lazy river and waterslide, fitness centre and indoor track, an outdoor accessible playground and a splash pad; numerous recreation and drop-in programs; space for Senior Citizens Centres and  Public Library; and a abundance of parking.

A centre that could sell City of Thunder Bay merchandise, as well as items such as goggles, towels, socks and padlocks.

A snack bar, hockey Pro-Shop offering skate sharpening, skate rentals and repairs. Items for sale include stick and shin pad tape, mouth guards, laces, water bottles and smaller pieces of hockey equipment.

Economic savings for the city occur by shared cost of staffing, heating, cooling, hydro, maintenance and cleaning. Economic opportunity occurs through construction of the facility and by business opportunities after the building is operational.

Instead of spending money in the short term on upgrading or retrofitting old arenas a long term vision and investment occurs in the city benefiting everyone.

WIFI on Public Transit

Access to WIFI while in transit is important to individuals for all kinds of reasons...work, learning and connecting with others comes to mind. Having access to WIFI on public transit would be another reason to encourage users to make use of the cities public transit services.

To increase service to those using public transit I would like to see wifi on public transit buses.

And besides convivence to users could the technology be used to improve safety and security for both bus operators and passengers? What opportunities exist to use Wi-Fi technology to improve transit operations?

Lets try a pilot project to see how we can meet the needs of the community in Thunder Bay.

Please see the following link for an example of a pilot project in another Canadian community.
